How to create a website
Three ways to use the tutorials
- You can read all the tutorials from start to finish (take breaks!) if you are doing the Easy Website Primer course before creating your website. On each page there are links to the next and previous tutorials, so you can navigate forwards and backwards.
The pages are structurally simple, and load quickly. (You'll learn about that). To take a break, bookmark the current page, then use the bookmark later to return to the same tutorial.
Skip the tutorials in the last section if they are not relevant to you.
- You can also take the course, one tutorial at a time, while you are creating your website. When you are about to start an activity, prepare yourself by reading the relevant tutorial.
If you are creating a website from scratch, then don't skip any of the Foundation steps.
- If you have already created your website and only need help with certain activities, then select those tutorials directly from the menu.
Links to other articles, sites, resources, tools
An important feature of this website is the Links / Resources column on the right. The links point to useful or interesting resources, relevant to the topic. Links have been placed as close as possible to the appropriate text. So whenever you find yourself wanting to know more about something, look for a nearby link and check it out.
Links will always open in a new tab or window so you won't lose your place in this site.
We also define terms and explain abbreviations in the Links / Resources column, where appropriate.
If our ad masters have done their job well, you should find relevant ads on every page. Again, check them out. Sure, they're hoping to sell you something, but some of them offer great information. As with any other business, you can learn a lot from your suppliers.
Creating a website is a complex activity, requiring many steps. Before you get involved in the detail, take a look at the big picture - our Website Build Summary gives you a one-page outline.
