Website publishing - You already know it all

If you've just landed on this page, hoping for tips on how to create a website, you're in luck. You're through to the right site, but perhaps on the wrong page. You see, this whole website is a course on Creating and Publishing a Website. So take a look at our Home Page and see if this is what you're looking for.

For the rest, I'm going to assume you have been following the previous tutorials. So you will know that, depending on your definition, the publishing of your website happened several tutorials ago, when we first uploaded your site to the host.

Since then, it's been on the Internet, where anyone could find it and browse it. Possibly someone has already.

But it wasn't finished then, and it is now. Congratulations!

When is a website published?

Actually, you could argue that a website isn't published until you tell people about it. A book may be printed, but until it is distributed to bookshops and placed on the shelves (or marketed in some other way), it isn't really published.

So you have to start telling people about the site and then they will start to visit. Then you'll know your website is truly published. But you may not be able to say at what moment it happened.

Now that you've finished creating your website (for the moment, at least) and you are about to turn your attention to promoting it, you have reached a very important milestone.

Publish website - Celebration

So pause for a while. Reflect on what you have achieved. Even open a bottle of champagne if that's how you like to celebrate.

Once you've savoured the success of your achievement, you can start to think about who you will tell about your website first, so that it will become truly published.

I expect you will want to start with the major search engines. Once they know about your website, things will start moving.
