Do you need a website professional?
Website professional service companies
The website professional can be indispensable if you need a site and don't have all the resources at your disposal.
There are thousands of web development service companies who will take on the entire project of building your website for you. Many of them will also take responsibility for promoting your site and building search engine traffic.
They can write content for you, or work with your content. They can handle all the graphic design work for you, including banners, logos and pictures, or include your own artwork and designs into your site.
Some of these companies are highly professional, with a team of specialists and hundreds of successful websites to their name. Others are one-man service companies of varying levels of website expertise.
Why you might want to use a website professional
Here are some reasons why you might want to sub-contract the whole project:
- You may need your website to be produced quickly.
- You may need the very highest standards of professional design and build.
- Your site may need to interact with complex IT systems.
- You may not feel comfortable about acquiring all the technical skills.
- You may not have the time to do it yourself.
- You may simply not enjoy this kind of work.
If you do decide to sub-contract the entire project, you will not want to read the Build Site pages in this course. (But you may find the other sections interesting).
Also, vet your intended suppliers carefully. Expect them to show you impressive examples of their relevant (to you) published work. And make sure you are comfortable with their charging structure and what they undertake to deliver.
Do it yourself with some help from a web professional
Another option is do-it-yourself but with some help. You can obtain a web professional's help with one or more activities such as: site structure and design, content writing, proof reading, graphic design, site testing, site promotion, search engine optimisation, obtaining directory links and many others.
In fact, for every aspect of website development and promotion, you can find web professionals who specialise in that very aspect.
Because she is a specialist, be careful not to expect her to know about things that fall outside her area of expertise. A programmer may know little of keywords and search engine optimization. An SEO specialist may know nothing about HTML. They may both have no clue about graphic design.
If you know that these various areas exist and are relevant to your project, you will be able to do a better job of finding the help you need and working with the various website professionals you employ. That's one good reason for spending some time yourself with this course.
